6 -11 OCTOBER 2026

Spend a week inside our professional training programme,
working alongside our full-time students and graduates.
WHAT IS CORPOREAL MIME?
thought through body
drama through action
atmosphere through presence
Corporeal Mime is a theatrical art first developed by French theatre pioneer Etienne Decroux in the 20th century. Through rigorous physical training, the practitioner learns to use the body as an instrument of thought and expression. In Corporeal Mime the actor is at the centre of the creative process, capable of authoring and performing drama through the medium of the body.
EXPERIENCE THE TRAINING FROM THE INSIDE
The Corporeal Mime School of Performing Arts is one of the few schools in the world dedicated to this unique theatrical tradition. Based at Flying Carpet Factory in Osaka, we offer a three-year, full-time diploma programme for performers who want to develop their physical technique, creativity and independence as theatre-makers.
For one week, we're opening the doors of this training to a limited number of guest participants. You will train alongside our full-time students, experiencing the classes that form part of their regular training.
During the week you will experience the four pillars of our curriculum:
TECHNIQUE
Develop physical awareness and control, and expand your expressive vocabulary.
IMPROVISATION
Learn to initiate and develop dramatic actions and situations through the body.
COMPOSITION
Discover how to craft physical ideas into stylised theatre.
REPERTOIRE
Study figures and pieces from the classical and post-modern repertoire of Corporeal Mime.

A direct lineage to Etienne Decroux
The training is led by Kentaro Suyama and Tania Coke, directors of tarinainanika theatre company and the Corporeal Mime School of Performing Arts. Before setting up in Japan, Kentaro and Tania trained and worked for many years in London with Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum, the last assistants of Etienne Decroux.
